Canadian Media: Hiding the bodies

When using Canada's Google search to find women and children killed by court orders, I found barely anything.  Three out of countless deaths were honored with a photo in the news.  Others had a quick mention, especially when it was a child.  When one mother loss the plot and killed her child(i don't even know if it actually happened or they just framed her for being female) had over twenty articles and a significant push to change the laws so that ONLY mothers who have had a criminal background are barred from having custody.

This is the status of gender in Canada.  Countless killings of mothers and women who were denounced of importance even when they were killed in a horrific manner.
Here are some of the names(Some women were not involved in custody cases and some were not disclosed as involved in custody cases):

This is Canada's disgrace fueled by an over voiced aggressive mens movement.  If action is not taken in regards to the poorly treated women in Canada, we WILL be lobbying our governments to allow asylum in our own countries for Canadian women.  Women who have gone through Domestic violence and THEN have to deal with poorly trained courts humiliating and trivializing our experiences - do come to a point where enough is enough and thus will NOT stop until true justice prevails and women are treated fairly NOT as glorified babysitters who are told to "submit" to the men who abused us and look the other way when our children are abused.  As for the Canadian masterminds of these murders(family courts), the world is and will be closely monitoring your actions.

As a journalist I take great exception to your suggestion that I am somehow hiding the bodies of Melody Burtis and Harley Baxter Burtis. If you had simply done a Google search on their names you would have found a wealth of information about them, much of it written by me. I spent a great deal of time on the story and continue to follow it now, years later. I have also become friends with and stay in touch with some of the loved ones they left behind.

Your short account of their story is seriously flawed and does them a great injustice. At no time did I or any of my colleagues refer to Albert Ouimet as Melody's "new boyfriend" nor did he. At the time of her death Melody was single but close to a man named Chris. The extent of her 'relationship' with Albert Oiumet was to buy a single bed for her son Harley from him and to borrow money from him a few times.

I assume your goal is to shed light on the plight of women and children who are abused and the further humiliation that is heaped upon them by the courts and the media. While that is an admirable goal you do it no service by posting blatantly incorrect, over generalized or sensationalized information. The truth is all you need and by not presenting it fairly and objectively you undermine your credibility and the strength of your cause. You do more harm than good.

Shria, This list was from a womens organization whom have been following the situation far more closely. The issue our organization has is far more deeper than you are referring to. We monitor the media reports on homicides, filicides and murder suicides. I did in fact google the names and provided the link to Canadas google. What I had noted and others have also observed is when reporting lacks certain details to be consistent with political ideals(conservative beliefs that often encourage silence of these types of causes). This is where the harm is and I don't believe that there is anything I could do that could match the harm of not providing those details and bringing those issues to light. All violence against women and children are preventable. The only reason it continues to prevail is via systematic abuses and if those systematic abuses are not being brought to light when they need to be, then these tragedies will go on forever, passed down from generation to generation. There is also a very big difference between sensationalism and activism. You mentioned two people, that list was lot longer than that. At the same time, I respect and appreciate the reports that were made and in no way stated that I did not. I also did not write that "Shria is hiding the bodies". It was quite clear that it was the media that is hiding the bodies and I am aware that there are different reasons for that and the intention was to bring these issues out in the open regardless of where it may conclude. It is crucial that ALL victims are reported as it otherwise misleads the public into believing that such things are more rare than they are. That is far more crucial than the time you wasted commenting on my blog.

Sault Ste.Marie- That says it all.

For readers not familiar- seems Shria writes for a small local paper- not usually shown in Google searches etc.- and- Sault Ste.Marie has had its share of roof climbers- the kind who don't like women -or children.
